HOW TO GET AROUND ON METRORAIL
The Metrorail system is a fast and easy way to get around Washington, D.C. Metro stations are marked by tall brown columns with a large “M” and colored stripes that show which lines stop there: Red, Blue, Orange, Silver, Green, and Yellow. Use maps in stations and trains or the WMATA app to plan your trip. You can also visit www.wmata.com/schedules/trip-planner/. No eating or drinking is allowed on trains or in stations. Stand on the right, walk on the left when using escalators.
FINDING YOUR ROUTE
Check the wall maps or WMATA app to find the line you need. Know the last stop (direction) and transfer stations, marked with a double black circle. Metrorail runs: Mon–Thu 5am–12am, Fri 5am–1am, Sat 7am–1am, Sun 7am–12am. Ask a station manager or call 202-637-7000 for help.
PAYING YOUR FARE
As of 2025, you can tap your SmarTrip card, contactless credit/debit card, or mobile wallet (Apple Wallet, Google Pay, or smartwatch) at faregates. Tap the same card or device to enter and exit. SmarTrip is still required for buses, parking, and passes. SmarTrip cards cost $2 and require a minimum $8 load. Vending machines accept cards, coins, and $1–$20 bills.

FARE RANGE • Weekdays before 9:30pm: $2.25–$6.75 • After 9:30pm & weekends: $2.25–$2.50
DISCOUNTS
Up to 2 kids (age 4 & under) ride free with a paying adult. Kids 5+ pay full fare. Seniors (65+), people with disabilities, SNAP recipients, and Medicare cardholders with photo ID get 50% off all fares.
TIPS
Closest metro stops to the hotel are Foggy Bottom (silver) and Farragut North (red) both can get you to most major destinations around the DC area
If you are only planning to ride the metro a couple of times, it is best to use contactless credit/debit card, or mobile wallet (Apple Wallet, Google Pay, or smartwatch) at faregates.
